BMW Z4 M Roadster ~ A Red Hot Affair
Hands trembling, legs all wobbly, an increase in my heart-beat rate and a seriously dry throat. Call it what you will, side effects, benefits, or maybe even both. But trust me on this, those were all the symtoms i had when i first took a step out of the Z4M Roadster. A car so good, the only reason i stepped out, was to calm myself down after that initial rush. To allow myself the time to take in the full effect of what i just experienced.
All i can describe it is, a full-on emotional rush. The Z4M is not just a car, it is an experience awaiting everyone who is about to step into the driver’s cockpit. Of course before anyone does that, we do have to take a step back and let our eyes flow over the surfaces of this car. On first glance, it sure looks like the normal Z4s we see ever so often on the roads pottering around town. Look closer though and you’ll notice the small but important details, details which transforms this car from a smooth and sharp kitchen knife into a chainsaw. Sure they both slice and dice, but one of them does it with a lot more excitement!
Those sharp precision folded lines over the bonnet will slice up your heart as well as the wind, and air that doesn’t get split apart gets sucked in by the big and menacing air intakes below. BMW “M” badges are plastered all over the car as well as all over the interior. Flashy for some, essential for others. Personally, i’d keep just that single one on the boot, and dump those on the sides away quite frankly. No need for such badges along the sides when those big high-performance brakes can be seen through those 18inch alloys. And to finish off everything else, quad exhaust at the rear performing the most wonderful song ever, whenever you open the taps.
Open the long slender doors, slot yourself in turn the key and her heart awakens with a delicious purr. The kind of sound you’ll probably get from your average lion. Run though the gears with the very direct 6-speed manual transmission and you’ll notice, it’s not that difficult to drive. In fact, there were no problems at all running the car around the city, the only problems being that with that long outstretched bonnet, you can’t really see anything up front and with the roof up, visibility is as good as a tank. Lowering the roof down however, gives you a whole new sense of perspective, the whole World just opens up right above you and with that thundering engine spitting out little droplets of fuel every once in a while, the Z4M is just music to the ears.
Take the car out on a proper day with the proper road, this car is just pure magic. Perhaps, that’s what the M stands for, Magical. Top-down, nice cool night weather with the wind blowing in your hair, blasting through a deserted back road with the engine singing her most beautiful chorus echoing back into your ears, this is what driving is all about. The ride is comfortable and yet, keeps the car absolutely in check every single time, and the way it deliver’s its 343HP (@7900rpm) and 365Nm of torque (@4900rpm) is just so raw and so visceral it’s almost indescribable. The Z4M doesn’t just make me feel good driving it, it makes me feel alive. I love the car so much, i drove it from end to end, stopping only for fuel. It is in fact, one of the best cars i have ever driven. Giving her back was one of the most heart breaking moments of my life.
To keep it short, the Z4M Roadster doesn’t just deliver high performance driving, this wonderfully engineered and flame-surface crafted beauty will capture your heart and make you fall in love. To call the Z4M Roadster a car is just not quite right, it’s not a car, it is an experience, and one that will never be forgotten.
