Blog Re-ignition

I’m back! I know, it’s been a really really long time. With my last posting being many months back, I seriously gave consideration to stopping this blog all the way. But amazingly, there are people (you) who still continue to visit and well, the little thought in the back of my head that keeps wanting me to update just grew larger and larger and now I am sitting in front of my desktop typing this out.
So much has happened these past few months that I really do not know where to start. I hope I am not letting any of u readers down with my lack of updates, if I did, I apologize. I can blame it all on my busy work schedule, my other commitments, but I guess the main reason was probably because I was just too plain lazy. Yes, I’m was a bum.
Well, let’s get on with it. First things first, I have thinned out my collection by quite a huge bit. I sold off my Maclaren F1s (Yes, 2 black longtails, 1 orange papaya, 1 Harrods, 1 silver street car and 2 FINA longtails). Did I make any money off it? Not really. My Porsches are all gone as well, as are a number of other cars. The reason for doing so? Well, I guess I just lost interest. I still love looking at these little wonderful miniature works of art though, whenever I visit a store. But the reason for my losing interest mainly lies rise in prices. When I first started the hobby, it was fine to see a model sitting in a store, and with just a hint of interest, purchase it without a second thought at all. But with the current prices, doing that is just impossible, I can’t even bear to part with the cash for a model that I DO really like. It’s just not justifiable for a hobby (At least, not for me). With this apparent lack of new models coming in, I guess the interest just sort of dwindled down and now it’s pretty much almost gone. (I still visit u guys at diecastxchange though, thanks for the encouragement!)
So with the money saved from buying diecast, what am I doing now? Well, pretty much all of it went into the 1:1 car. The E30 has been and still is such a joy to drive, sure it’s still horrible to be stuck in rush hour traffic. But on nice quiet nights along a nice quiet road, when everything is going well, and with the throttle pedal modulating the engine with such magical vigor, it all just falls into places so nicely. Such is the joy of driving. When everything else in your life just leaves you for that one moment and you do not have to care about anything else in the World. Such a feeling only driver’s can experience.
It’s just strange to describe a car as just a mode of transport really, how can something that makes you feel so alive be just another tool. Sure it gets you from point A to point B, but that’s just missing the point right? I guess that’s what separates people who love cars and people who just use them.
What else has happened in my life during this time of absence? Well, besides losing much interest in diecast and spending all my money on the E30, I’ve got a brand new laptop (It’s a SONY-with a carbon fibre lid no less), I’ve ended an almost 3 year relationship (My fault entirely, but getting shouted at in front of all my friends at the local club ain’t gonna help), I’ve been really really busy at work. And of course, last but not least, I’ve been getting more and more involved in the local BMW club of Singapore (BMW-SG), a great bunch of enthusiastic folks and great people in general. Probably the best car-club I’ve been to locally, where the people are very friendly and it’s just generally a great bunch of people to have fun and hang around with. Big thumbs up to all of them. I’ll write more about what’s been happening in a while.
So what does all that mean in relation to this diecast blog? Surely I can’t totally forget about my diecast right? I’ll still continue updating my reviews of the cars I still have in my cabinet (Still quite a sizeable number of cars J ). I’ll be writing until I get them all out. And that WILL happen. This site will NOT go quietly and die off. Will I still buy more cars? Probably, but only when I manage to set aside a nice amount again. I’ll probably concentrate of a certain style/make of car instead of just buying anything I fancy.
There will be some additions to this site though, with my rising interest in my 1:1, I’ll be featuring the real car more, I do hope that the general car-loving population have a soft spot for the E30, cause I just love the car to bits. She’s a wonderful companion on those short night drives when I’m all alone. Lovely car. I’ll be posting articles and events which I’m involved in with the local BMW club as well. So in a way, this site will have a rather strong bias towards the German marque.
That’s not to say I’ll be ignoring all other makes, no way, I still love Japanese cars too, recently tested the Mitsubishi “i” kei-class car. A short writeup coming up soon as well.
I really hope that till now, you are still reading, and I really want to thank you so much for doing so. I wish that you will still continue to visit.
Signing off here for now.
Best regards:
Louis Soon
